#did someone actually spell out what he’s saying here?
OKAY! SO, Young MacGuffin was one of my fave characters in Brave. He’s speaking Doric, which is a delightfully incomprehensible accent from Aberdeen & the North East of Scotland (fit like, furry boots min?). You get used to it quickly, I swear. It’s also the region both MacGuffin’s voice actor, Kevin McKidd, grew up.
Without further ado,
1 - “If he was a wee bit close, I could lob a caber at him, ye ken.” (If he were closer, I could throw a log at him, you know)
2 - It’s been a wee while since I watched the movie & I can’t actually remember what he’s saying here? (If someone could provide a phonetic transcript, I’d be happy to “translate”)
3 - “It’s jist nae fair makin us ficht fur the hand o the quine tha’ disnaw want any bit of it. Ken?” (It’s just not fair making us fight for the hand of a girl that doesn’t want anything to do with it. Right?”)
In short, Brave is stunning in its representation of fictional Scottish people as sounding actually Scottish (as opposed to some other films I could name).
YES GOD THANK YOU.
I must SHIP.
